We board plane.
We used miles to get the tickets. Which meant that we were flying business class. Yay! But on Air Canada’s long haul flights, business class and first class are one and the same, which means that it’s first class, my friends. Visit this section of Air Canada’s website if you don’t believe me.
I don’t want this to sound like an ad for Air Canada, but it was awesome. Each seat was its own pod, with dividers separating each person. The seats were adjustable all the way to flat. There were more movies than I could shake a glass of champagne at. The plane left on time, and arrived early. The flight attendants were nice. Though the food was just okay, who cares?

We giggled across the aisle at each other. As always, Justin and I demonstrated our true rube nature by my not being able to figure out how to get the tray out and him having to come over and show me. Such is life.
Side note:
A lot of times when I travel I have more of an itinerary, I try to learn a lot, I try to learn the language, at least as much as possible to get by. And since we booked this far in advance (because of said miles), one would think we’d have a long time to plan and ruminate.
And in a sense, we did—but at the same time, when I plan something so far in advance, there are...kinda peaks and valleys of excitement. A lot at the beginning, then it kind of diminishes, then it pops back up again, but not as much as initially, then there’s some indecision, then there’s rededication, and then there’s not enough time and money to do things as initially envisioned.
I should do everything as last-minute as my packing was. Because that rocked.
So this time, I brought only printouts, and no travel books. I didn’t learn as much about the country as I had initially wanted. I didn’t have a huge list of restaurants and shops and sightseeing destinations. I didn’t know the language at all. I was pretty damn chill about it all. I was okay with that, and it ended up working out fine.
Though I do wish I had at least gotten myself better versed in language basics, and will try to note that for future travel. I think it’s really a sign of respect for the place and people that you are visiting, and I’m embarrassed that I didn’t make more of an effort.

Justin is much more mellow.
But agrees with me on the language.
Flight is 10 hours of pleasant uneventfulness. We didn’t sleep because we wanted to get on Tokyo time; we left Vancouver at 1 p.m. May 24 and got into Tokyo at 3 p.m. May 25.
